Remove Those Frown Lines

By Morgan T. Laire

Botox is relatively uncomplicated, both in the delivery and the results achieved. This is one of the many reasons that Botox is the world's leading non-invasive cosmetic procedure. No other procedure comes close.

Not surprisingly, the treatment of the frown lines is one of the most popular treatment procedures for Botox patients. When you inject the frown muscle with an adequate dose of Botox Cosmetic, it stops moving. As a result, the frown line diminishes. The frown lines are reduced because the muscle that cause the wrinkles to occur is not activating in the same pattern.

Don't Look Unapproachable

Again, the most common area of treatment with Botox is the frown line between the eyes. Botox was actually approved for frown lines in 2002 by the FDA. In addition to the fact that frown lines are a major area of concern for patients is the fact that the market was driven by extremely high levels of satisfaction among patient end users. Botox smooths out the vertical lines between the brows. This gives patients a more refreshed and relaxed appearance. Some patients say it eliminates their "angry" look.

Get Ready for your Treatment

Candidates for cosmetic surgery should be in generally good physical health and must be candid with their physician about any drugs they are taking. The medical history should include hormones (oral contraceptives and estrogen replacement) and even aspirin, vitamins, and herbal medications since these substances can interfere with blood clotting or interact with medications used during surgery and could increase surgical risk.

Patients should be aware of all aspects of their planned treatment. In other words, they should know very clearly whether they should discontinue certain medications, or even stop smoking.

Right After your Procedure

To achieve optimal results, doctors recommend that patients take the following precautionary measures:

- Wait 24 hours before engaging in strenuous activity or exercise

- Avoid laying down for 4-5 hours after the injections

- Avoid massaging the treated area

- As directed by your doctor, be sure to follow the routine of your daily facial exercises

- And be sure wear sun block

It is best to restrict muscle movements right after your Botox procedure. This will give the agent a sufficient amount of time to settle.

When Will I Require Another Treatment?

Normally, a Botox treatment should last you between three and six months, depending on the treatment area and the severity of the problems. Though not as prominently as prior to the procedure, facial lines and wrinkles will start to reappear. It is normally when this occurs that a patient will return to have their procedure performed again. The results of repeated Botox procedures will be lasting progressively longer with each treatment. In other words, a patient will require fewer procedures to achieve their desired results.
